CREW REGISTRATION

Registration is now open.

The 5 vs. 5 b-boying battle at Soul on Top Volume XI is an open competition. All crews have to register in order to participate. We do not invite crews.

Check out the: Registered Crews.

Crews are registered on a first come first served basis. There are two important exceptions from the registration on a first come, first served basis. With these exceptions we would like to motivate very good crews from abroad to participate at Soul on Top Volume XI.

Firstly we reserve six spaces for crews that receive support from the Travel Fund. The crews to receive support from the Travel Fund have to apply for support and will be chosen by a commission of the AbsTracks Association.

Secondly we reserve an additional two spaces for very good crews from abroad. These two spaces will be held open for very good crews that travel far but receive no support from the Travel Fund. The two spaces will be assigned by the commission that is also responsible for the Travel Fund.

    ENLARGEMENT TO 48 CREWS

Up to 48 crews will be able to participate at the eleventh edition of Soul on Top. For the tenth edition last year we have decided to enlarge the battle system because we want to keep Soul on Top an open competition where everyone who wants to participate, can participate. We want Soul on Top to be a battle that is easy to enter but hard to win.

In the long run we are aiming at a battle system with 64 crews strictly held in K.O. mode over six rounds. Because we don't want to make the change to 64 crews in one step we have at first enlarged the battle system to 48 crews. Because we don't want to hold battles with three crews - as we have done last year - we will this year at the same time hold three battles in three circles at the same time. At this year's Soul on Top there will be no more battles with three crews and no show battles, if you win a battle you get to the next round.

    BATTLE MODE

The battle is a 5 vs. 5 b-boying battle. Each crew has to be made of five b-boys or b-girls. Up to 48 crews will be able to participate. The battle is held strictly in K.O. mode. There will be no more battles with three crews and no show battles. After each battle the victorious crew will advance to the next round.

The 5 vs. 5 b-boying battle consists of six rounds: the round of fortyeight, the round of twentyfour, the round of twelve, the quarter-finals, the semi-finals and the final. After the round of twelve the judges will in two separate battles choose two lucky loosers who will - in addition to the three winning crews of the round of twelve - advance to the quarter finals. In the round of fortyeight, the round of twentyfour and the round of twelve three battles will be held at the same time in three circles. The battles in the quarter-finals, semi-finals and the final will be held one after the other in the main circle. The round of fortyeight, the round of twentyfour and the round of twelve will be judged by three judges. The quarter-finals, semi-finals and the final will be judged by six judges. The round of fortyeight, the round of twentyfour and the round of twelve will dure eight minutes. The quarter-finals, the semi-finals and the final will dure ten minutes.

If less than 48 but more than 32 crews show up the judges will choose lucky loosers to nonetheless advance to the round of twentyfour. In case of an uneven number of participating crews there will be one crew that advances to the round of twentyfour without having to battle in the round of fortyeight.

If less than 32 crews show up the judges will pick the best loosing crews of the round of thirtytwo so that there will be a guaranteed 16 crews in the round of sixteen.

    Check out the: Battle System.

    TWO-STEP DRAW PROCEDURE

The crews to battle each other in the round of fortyeight will be drawn by chance in a two-step procedure. For the first step of the procedure every participating crew will choose the eight crews they think will be the best of all the participating crews at Soul on Top Volume XI. The eight crews that are chosen the most often will then be assigned by draw to an assigned space of the round of fortyeight. In the second step of the procedure all the other crews will be assigned by draw to the remaining spaces in the battles of the round of fortyeight.

The participating crews will choose the eight crews to be assigned by draw in the first step of the procedure when they check-in at the mainevent of Soul on Top Volume XI. The crews won't be able to choose their own crew.
